Employment

Join our farm team! Gain exposure to organic farming practices, CSA and wholesale marketing, and the unique joys and challenges of farming. In the 2018 season, we have one to two field crew positions as well as one field crew leader and one packing crew leader position available.

We are looking to fill 3-4 positions this year: field/packing crew members, field crew leader and packing crew leader. While we primarily expect employees to work five days per week (hours vary throughout season) and every other Saturday, everyone has evening and weekend responsibilities to share. We are primarily a vegetable farm but also have opportunities for animal husbandry.

In addition to assisting with field work, the packing crew leader focuses on managing our packing area from coordinating the packing of CSA boxes and wholesale orders to organizing to records management, providing communications support and outreach for the farm, staffing CSA distributions, providing transportation, coordinating on-farm trainings, interfacing with the local charitable food system and potential retail opportunities.

In addition to assisting with packing work, the field crew leader focuses on leading a crew of 1-5 crew members (depending on the time of year and day of week) to carry out most aspects of working on an organic vegetable farm - from seedling propagation to field preparation to harvesting, transportation and staffing CSA distributions.

Field/packing crew members support the field and packing crew leaders to carry out the above responsibilities.

Experience/Background:

Packing Crew Leader: excellent organizational skills balanced with tolerance for the hectic and imperfect aspects of production-based farm systems. Ability to communicate well in writing and verbally. Interest in food systems and community-building.

Willingness to work hard, directly support the lead farmer, have a sense of humility regarding what needs to get done but a willingness to give it your all. A good sense of humor is likely helpful.

Field / Packing Crew members: Interest in organic vegetable farming, willingness to work hard, outside, with a team. Vegetable production experience is desired, but not required. A good work ethic and the ability to work hard, day after day, is required.

Meals/Housing:

All employees are provided with access to bountiful food from our farm. Choice of CSA share and occasional specialty items. We also provide free access to some basic shared dry goods. Attempts are made for regular farm-wide meals together. Housing includes a private bedroom and shared kitchen/living area.
